Any pointers on how to survive heat in Delhi?

Hi! I'm from the northwest of the United states. We RARELY get above 20 C here...and next week I'm going to Delhi - which is around 43 C right now (right?)...YIKES!!!! I know...drink lots of water - but the water gets hot quick, right? Does it still help? Seems India is pretty conservative, so it's not like I can wear shorts and a tank top (not that I would anyway)...well just want some tips on how to go from cold to so hot... Will I adjust quickly? Anything I should watch for? Thanks!!! Dhanyavad!!! :)

Any pointers on how to survive heat in Delhi?
Delhi is not very conservative, although it is not exactly safe for women, especially after dark. That aside, I would not advise shorts and a tank top, because you are likely to dehydrate. Drink lots of water, of course, and while water does get got, it will prevent you from dehydrating. Wear loose, but covered clothes made of light fabric, like thin cotton or linen. Wear a hat and do NOT forget your sunglasses. You might even want to buy some clothes there. Some of the street markets have clothes at very reasonable prices. Hope this helps!

Reply:1. Drink 4-6 litres of water per day. Drink lemon juices, often, available for Rs.5, everywhere in Delhi.

2. Eat as many fruits as possible, water melon, tusk melon, and reduce solid food.

3. You can buy cotton dresses for a cheap rate in Delhi markets, to use during your trip

4. Try to be in AC room/AC vehicle, if possible.
